All week I have been working on fondant decorations for my Aunt Karen and mom's bdays. We're celebrating them both tomorrow night. I made my mom a big pig, of course. Then, just last night, I COMPLETELY changed the idea for my Aunt's cake. I had made all these butterflies, and while they looked cute, they just weren't personal enough. My mom is easy, she's obsessed with pigs. My Aunt has a wide variety of interests so it's a little more difficult to narrow down. She's a HUGE dog lover, however since her dog passed away, you can't even say the word "dog" without her going to tears (and I don't blame her!) So anything dog is out. Then it hit me! MOUSE BURGERS! When I was about 3 or 4, my Aunt and I would play 'waitress' and she would always order a Mouse Burger (I think I thought the word/idea was funny.) So I am going to TRY to make a cute mouse under a bun. Somehow. Not sure if I can find brown food colouring for the bun on such short notice. My mom's pig took a good 6 hours to complete. Here he/she is. Probably a he. Now, this isn't the best view of him, you can't see his cute little folded ear. You also have to picture him wallowing in the chocolate frosting and now that he is dry, he is MUCH more smooth in appearance. He looks a little clumpy/pitted here but I'll post an updated picture when I have more time. Fondant usually looks like that when wet and better when dry. At least, that's been my experience.  My mom's cake: Vanilla cake with whipped cream, banana cream pudding and sliced bananas between the layers. Chocolate frosting on top. Pig wallering in the "mud." My Aunt's cake: Strawberry cake with layers of whipped cream and sliced strawberries, white frosting on the outside and those long wafer cookies filled with chocolate standing up around the cake (if they don't fall off.) With the Mouse Burger on top. |

 I woke up this morning with most of Widget laying on my shoulder and his head resting across my face :) Aaawwww. He smelled like graham crackers. I wonder why nature designed him to smell like various delicious foods while he sleeps? |

My goofy Widget found a burger bush
I can't believe what Widget did the other night during his walk. He found his own personal mother load. We were walking on the sidewalk and I shined my LED flashlight to the side of the sidewalk near some bushes where I saw these... "potato" vines. I don't know if you know what I am talking about, these vines drop these things that look JUST like potatoes. When we get down the block, I decide to turn around (although now I forget why) and normally Widget would protest as he doesn't like his walk cut short. Not this time, he happily turned around and started walking back. This should have been my first indication he was up to something. We start to approach those bushes again, where I saw the "potatoes" and at a fast pace Widget, without breaking stride mind you, sticks his head into the dark area and is doing the unmistakable motion of trying to get something down his throat. Of course I panicked because I thought he grabbed one of those poison potato things so I reached down, stopped him and shined the flashlight in his mouth. I couldn't quite make out what it was, and damned if Widget was going to fight me to the death over what was CRAMMED into his mouth. I noticed it wasn't a potato, it almost looked like chocolate cake. At this time, I'm more afraid he's going to choke on it than I am worried about what it is because he is growling and trying to eat it at the same time. Then, I realize IT'S HALF A FRIGGIN CHEESEBURGER!!! Half a cheeseburger!! After I figure out what it is, he's still afraid I'm going to take it but at the same time he has to poop. So he's pooping and trying to eat this half a damn cheeseburger at the same time LOL. That burger never left his mouth. I had no choice but to let him eat it, sticking my hand in that mouth would be like sticking it in a wood chipper at that point. I was worried all night about where it came from, was it poisoned? What if it was over salted??? Apparently, it was fine because Widget is fine. I think maybe some kid just chucked his half a burger into the bushes, at least that's what I hope. I hope it hadn't been there too long. Panic has given way to hilarity though, I can only imagine how happy he was to find that. So happy he was going to fight to the death over it, and eat it while he pooped if that's how it was gonna be. LOL I just can't stop laughing over the whole thing.  |

but it would be very devastating if lj was no more. i've been here since 2000! i'm not going to worry about saving or downloading my journal. i don't know what i'd even do with it. looking back in nostalgia would only make me miss lj even more. if the only way to have an lj in the future meant a paid/perm account, i'll buy one immediately. of course no one said any of this will happen, just that people got laid off. there's much of that going around. i'm anti-facebook and i have a myspace/betterin3d but what's the point of myspace? i have pointykitty.org. My birthday cupcake toppers
These took me FIVE HOURS to make yesterday and I've only made 3!!   I'd like to make 3 more so I have at least 6 cupcakes with roller skates. I let them dry overnight and will put the wheels and stoppers on them today. I didn't want the wheels to squish but it's a long way until Friday... I hope they survive that long. They resemble the roller skates I use to wear as a kid- red and white. I think they were called Fireball or something like that. I don't know if they still make them. They were high-tops. I found the boot part the hardest part to make. I thought the tiny details would take the longest but I was mistaken. I hope they don't fall apart once on top of the cupcakes. |
